wild meadow seedingWildflower seeding

Wildflowers can be introduced to grassland that contains a few wild grasses or flowers. The grass needs to grazed or cut short, then harrowed and subsequently the wildflower seed can be broadcast.

A wildflower meadow is most suited to wild flower seedingnaturally shallow and poor soils, fields on slopes or poorly drained areas. Preparations must be made in advance as a sterile seedbed needs to be formed and the seed should planted in late summer/early autumn.

The following year the flowers must not be allowed to come to seed and the grass should be mowed and removed. In the second year the flowers are allowed to seed but then the grass should be mown and removed once more.
