 Soil
analysis
Soil fertility can affect grass growth; therefore analysis
is vital to discern exactly what the soil health is. Recommendations
can be given to correct any deficiencies and a correct balance of nutrients
supplied and applied in order to give good strong growth.
A sample
of the soil is taken from different points of the area to be tested
and then sent of the lab. The results come back together with recommendations
for future nutrient inputs.
Ph.
If Ph is low, i.e. the soil is acidic
then the grass will not grow as well as if the soil was neutral.
Clay ground and horses are just some of the likely areas and causes of
acidic soil. The signs are often poor grass growth and strong weed growth
such as buttercup. The answer is to test the soil and then spread lime
accordingly to bring the Ph up.
Nutrient Levels
If nutrient levels are
low, grass growth will be poor and therefore the quality of the grass
as a feed will be poor as it is likely to be low on vital mineral
elements that animals require. Soil testing and analysis will determine
what fertiliser and minerals would need to be added to the soil. |
